By Our Reporter at the Estádio do Dragão

DIOGO COSTA produced a goalkeeping masterclass as FC Porto weathered a German storm to sink VfB Stuttgart 2-0 and march into the Europa League quarter-finals.

On a night where the scoreline told only half the story, Porto’s “Dragon” between the sticks was the real fire-breather. Despite Stuttgart dominating possession and peppering the home goal with 20 shots, they found the Portugal No. 1 in truly impenetrable form.

The Kid’s a Natural
The Estádio do Dragão was rocking from the off, and it took just 21 minutes for the breakthrough. Young starlet William Gomes showed exactly why he’s the talk of the town, ghosting into the box to finish a pinpoint cross from the lively Borja Sainz.

Stuttgart, trailing from the first leg, refused to lie down. Deniz Undav and Chris Führich launched a relentless assault on the Porto goal, but they weren’t just playing a team—they were playing a wall named Costa. The Porto skipper pulled off six world-class saves, including a logic-defying reflex stop from an Undav volley that had the visitors’ bench with their heads in their hands.

Froholdt’s Thunderbolt
The Germans huffed and puffed, but Porto’s backline—anchored by the legendary Thiago Silva in his milestone 1,000th professional game—refused to buckle.

The knockout blow arrived in the 72nd minute. Substitute Victor Froholdt decided he’d seen enough, winning the ball high up the pitch before unleashing a left-footed rocket into the roof of the net. It was a goal worthy of any stage and it effectively punched Porto’s ticket to the next round.

Red Mist for Stuttgart
As the clock ticked down, Stuttgart’s frustration boiled over. Nikolas Nartey, who had only been on the pitch for 15 minutes, managed to pick up two yellow cards in sixty seconds. His late stamp on a Porto shirt saw him sent for an early shower, leaving the Swabians to finish with ten men.

Porto now look ahead to a quarter-final clash with Nottingham Forest, but on this evidence, as long as Diogo Costa is in the mood, the Dragons fear no one.

Would you like me to write a post-match interview with Diogo Costa or provide a tactical breakdown of the game?
