ONITSHA, Nigeria – Anambra State Police Command has debunked the rumour that unknown gunmen invaded a polling unit in Ekwulobia in Aguata local government council of State and carted away voting materials.
In a statement issued by DSP Nwode Nkiruka , the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer and Head Police Media Team for 2021 Anambra gubernatorial election , the incident did not happened anywhere in the state.
An online publication had reported that gunmen invaded a polling unit and went away with electoral materials. The police urged the general public to disregard the publication and any other rumour of violence in the State.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG Zaki Ahmed reassures Anambra residents that the Police are alive to their responsibility of protecting lives and property of the people, moreover at this time of state’s gubernatorial poll.
According to him, the police are committed to providing unbiased security services to everyone irrespective of their social, religious or political.
He also condemned the efforts of purveyors of fake news in the state who are bent on misleading members of the public against the calm polling atmosphere the state enjoyed .
