LAGOS, Nigeria – Popular Nigerian musician, Ice Prince Zamani has been arrested by officials of the Nigerian Police Force. He was arrested earlier today at 3am, the Nigerian police has said.
In a brief statement, Lagos State Police Spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin said the musician was stopped during a stop and search operation by men of the Lagos Police command.
He explained that Ice Prince Zamani was driving without license plate numbers and was dragged to the police station.
He said the musician thereafter abducted the police officer in his car, assaulted him and threatened to throw him into a river.
He said Ice Prince Zamani will be arraigned later today.
“At 3am today, @Iceprincezamani was stopped for driving without license plates. He agreed to be taken to the station. He, thereafter, abducted the police officer in his car, assaulted him and threatened to throw him in the river. He has been arrested and would be arraigned today”, the Police Public Relations Officer said.
Quoting the Police Act, the police image maker pointed to the Section 356 of the Police Act: Which states that “assaults, resists or willfully obstructs a police officer while acting in the execution of his duty or any person acting in aid of a police officer while so acting..”
Zalmani was arrested at a time when the Inspector General of Police, IGP has given an order to the Nigerian Police to embark on speedy trial of any body who assaults police officer on duty.
