WASHINGTON — The Pentagon on Monday identified the two U.S. Army soldiers killed during a series of intense Iranian missile and drone strikes on a strategic military outpost in Jordan over the weekend.
The deaths mark a significant escalation in the ongoing, direct kinetic conflict between the United States and Iranian forces in the region.
Pvt. Isabella Gonzales, 19, of Carrollton, Texas, was killed in action on Friday, July 17, when the initial wave of strikes hit the installation. The following day, July 18, 1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, was killed in action as the regional hostilities continued to surge.
Both service members were stationed at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in northern Jordan, a vital hub for American aerial and air defense operations in the Middle East.
According to U.S. military officials, four other service members were wounded and medically evacuated to a nearby hospital but have since been discharged. At least one other individual remains missing as forensic experts examine unidentified remains recovered from the site.
Dedicated to Regional Air Defense
The Pentagon detailed that both soldiers were heavily integrated into the military’s regional shield against aerial threats.
Pvt. Gonzales was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 57th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 52nd Air Defense Artillery Brigade, operating under the 10th Army Air Missile Defense Command based out of Ansbach, Germany.
First Lieutenant Feehan served with the 2nd Battalion, 55th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 32nd Army Air Missile Defense Command, out of Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
Both were deployed to Jordan in support of Operation Inherent Resolve, the long-standing international coalition mission tasked with maintaining regional stability and countering extremist factions.

The fatal strikes come amidst a volatile, week-long breakdown in diplomatic ceasefire negotiations, pushing Washington and Tehran into a cycle of direct military retaliation.
For the past eight consecutive nights, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has directed heavy retaliatory airstrikes targeting Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) forces and assets inside Iran. American operations have heavily focused on degrading Tehran’s capabilities to deploy ballistic hardware and ensuring the security of vital commercial shipping lanes.
The deaths of Pvt. Gonzales and 1st Lt. Feehan raise the total number of American military fatalities tied directly to the current hostilities with Iran to 16. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth acknowledged the heavy losses on Monday, stating that the soldiers’ sacrifices “only stiffens our resolve” as the U.S. military recalibrates its defensive posture across Jordan, Iraq, and Syria.
