SAO PAULO, Brazil – The greatest soccer legend, Edson Arantes Do Nascimento better known as Pele is dead. He was 82.

Pele, who has a record of scoring 1, 281 goals in 1, 363 appearance died earlier today. The soccer legend has had a bout with kidney and prostrate until his death.

His daughter, Kelly Nascimento who had always provided update on the social media announced his death when she posted the picture of her dad in the hospital with hands and wrote, “Everything we are is thanks to you. We love you infinitely. Rest in peace.”

In his days, Pele scored 77 goals in 92 games for Brazil. Till date, he remains the only player to win the World Cup three times, lifting the trophy in 1958, 1962 and 1970.

In the year 2000, Pele was named Player of the Century  by football governing body, FIFA.

In 2001,  a tumour was detected during routine examination on him in the hospital. By September  that year a tumour was removed  from Pele’s colon at the Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo

A dogged fighter, Pele never knew he will die so soon. Three weeks ago, he wrote his last message to his fans.

“My friends, I want to keep everyone calm and positive. I’m strong, with a lot of hope and I follow my treatment as usual. I want to thank the entire medical and nursing team for all the care I have received.

“I have a lot of faith in God and every message of love I receive from you all over the world keeps me full of energy. And watch Brazil in the World Cup too! Thank you so much for everything”, he said.
