LAGOS, Nigeria – The Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) has demanded immediate release of Deputy Director General(Admin) of the Presidential Campaign Organisation, Mr. Tanimu Turaki, SAN who has been detained by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC).
In a statement by Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Kola Ologbodiyan, the party said Turaki was arrested today for no just cause and demanded for his immediate release.
The PDP said the arrest and detention of Turaki was part of plot by the Buhari Presidency and the All Progressive Congress(APC) to use state aparatus to intimidate party leaders to scuttle its determination to reclaim “our victor at the Feb. 23 presidential election.
“Since the peoples candidate, Atiku Abubakar and the PDP expressed our unwaivering determination to reclaim our victory at the tribunal, being armed with overwhelming evidence, our leaders have been subjected to escalated harassment, constant threats, blackmail, cajoiling, contrivances by the APC to drop our legal option”, he said.
The party said Tanimu Taraki was detained after honouring invitation by the EFCC, to endorse a bail document for the Finance Director of Atiku Abubakar’s company, Babalele Abdullahi, who was arrested earlier by the commision on flimpsy excuses.
The party noted that the Presidency are fighting a lost battle as no amount of harassment and threats will ever make the PDP to buckle in its determination to take back the mandate, in line with the wishes and aspirations of Nigerians.
