OLIVER GLASNER told the Selhurst Park faithful to “stay humble”—but it was supersub Evann Guessand who ensured they stayed happy with a dramatic 90th-minute winner.
On an afternoon where banners in the Holmesdale End screamed for the manager’s head, it took a ghosting run from the Aston Villa loanee to silence the boo-boys and leave Wolves howling at the moon.
Before Guessand’s late heroics, it was Dean Henderson who kept the Palace ship from sinking. The England keeper was a mountain between the sticks, making seven vital saves. His biggest moment came just before the break when Adam Wharton clattered Mateus Mane in the box.
Tolu Arokodare stepped up for the visitors, but Henderson—fast becoming the Prem’s penalty king—guessed right to smother the weak spot-kick. It was a massive let-off for Glasner, whose side looked second-best for large spells of the opening hour.
The game flipped on its head in the 61st minute thanks to a moment of madness from Wolves’ Ladislav Krejci. Having already seen yellow for a foul on Ismaila Sarr, the defender inexplicably kicked the ball away just three minutes later.
Referee Tom Kirk had no choice but to flash a second yellow, leaving Gary O’Neil’s men to face a 30-minute siege with ten men.
With the clock ticking towards a stalemate that would have done little to dampen the “Glasner Out” talk, Tyrick Mitchell whipped in a desperate cross from the left.
Guessand, who had only been on the pitch 18 minutes, timed his run to perfection. He ghosted ahead of Yerson Mosquera and slid the ball past Jose Sa to spark scenes of pure relief in South London.
The win puts ten points between Palace and the drop zone, but for Wolves, it’s a long, lonely trip back to the Midlands after a missed penalty and a red card cost them dear.
