WEST BANK, Palestine – There is a global outrage following the decision of the Israeli Defence Forces, IDF to open fire at a 25 man EU and Arab delegation who had visited Jenin Refugee Camp in the West Bank for first hand information.
Although no injuries resulted from the shooting the delegation has aborted the mission.
Reacting to the incident, the EU Foreign Policy chief Kaja Kellas said threats to foreigners in Jenin is unacceptable.
Italian Foreign Ministry demanded that the “israeli” government clarify the shooting incident that occurred at the diplomatic delegation during its visit to Jenin.
Spanish Foreign Ministry said “We strongly condemn the shooting by “israeli” soldiers during the diplomats’ visit to Jenin in the West Bank.
For the Belgian Foreign Ministry the diplomats’ visit to Jenin was coordinated with the israeli army and they were in a convoy of 20 identifiable vehicles.
Irish Foreign Minister said what “israel” is doing in Gaza is “barbaric.
In its reaction, Hamas described the israeli occupation forces’ direct fire at 25 Arab and European ambassadors and diplomats during their visit to Jenin camp as a manifestation of the occupation’s arrogance and contempt, and its violation of all international norms and conventions.
“The continued israeli aggression on Jenin and its refugee camp for the fifth consecutive month, coupled with its ongoing aggression on Tulkarm, Nablus, and other West Bank governorates, represents a frantic attempt to implement annexation and displacement plans by intensifying settlement expansion and stealing land from its original owners”, Hamas said, adding, “we affirm that the occupation, no matter how deeply it commits crimes, will fail to achieve its goals in the West Bank, Gaza, and every inch of our occupied land, thanks to the steadfastness of our people and the firmness of their valiant resistance.
“We call on the international community to intensify its pressure to stop the occupation’s crimes, support our people’s steadfastness and right to self-determination, and establish an independent Palestinian state with Quds as its capital”.
