August 26, 2014 – President of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Mr. Aminu Maigari has been arrested by officials of the Department of State Security Service.

Maigari was arrested just a day after he threw in the trowel as NFF chairman in Abuja. He tendered his resignation on Monday night to Minister of Sports, Tammy Danagogo.

Special Assistant to the Minister on Media, Mr. Patrick Omorodion noted that the tenure of Maigari-led Board ended on midnight of August 25, 2014.

We gathered that he was arrested along with the General Secretary of the NFF, Musa Amadu and Christopher Green.

Although no reason has been given for the arrest, a source told our correspondent that it may not be unconnected with recent fire that gutted headquarters of the NFF in Abuja and issues of allowances at World Cup in Brazil that some said may have been responsible for early elimination of Nigeria in the quarter final stage.

These officials were arrested on the day that the NFF has scheduled to hold a general assembly that would lay the roadmap for general elections earlier scheduled for the day but postponed to make it more acceptable and credible to FIFA and other stakeholders.
