IBADAN, Oyo – In a powerful endorsement of local enterprise, the Olubadan-designate, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has hailed telecommunications giant Globacom as the “pride of Nigeria,” urging all citizens to support the company’s continued success.
The monarch made the remarks during a courtesy visit from Globacom’s Enterprise Sales team at his private residence in Bodija, Ibadan.
Oba Ladoja’s comments highlight Globacom’s historical impact on the Nigerian telecommunications landscape.
He reflected on the pre-Glo era, stating that without the company’s intervention, Nigerians would have remained under the “oppressive tendencies” of earlier telecoms operators.
He specifically recalled a time when Nigerians were forced to “pay per minute even if all they said was ‘hello, how are you?'” a reference to the prohibitive per-minute billing that was standard practice before Globacom’s entry.
The monarch also extended prayers for the well-being of Globacom’s Chairman, Dr. Mike Adenuga, Jr., and expressed his hope for the company’s support during his upcoming coronation and subsequent reign.
Speaking on behalf of the company, the Head of Globacom’s Enterprise Sales, Mr. Adeniyi Odejobi, congratulated Oba Ladoja on his ascension. He conveyed the warm wishes of the Globacom Board and Management and pledged the company’s commitment to the monarch’s office.
“Globacom will support your office, and we will ensure that your telecommunications needs are fulfilled,” Odejobi stated, ahead of the monarch’s official staff of office presentation scheduled for Friday, September 26, 2025.
This meeting underscores the strong relationship between key traditional institutions and leading figures in Nigeria’s technology sector, emphasizing the role of local companies like Globacom in driving economic progress and digital inclusion across the nation.
