OGBA, Lagos – A Chief Magistrates sitting in Ogba, Lagos today remanded a 44 year old, serial killer, Wasiu Akinwande, better known as Olori Esho for allegedly killing eight persons and causing permanent disability to a woman.
Chief Magistrate Mobolaji Tanimola ordered Olori Esho to be remanded in the custody of Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Kirikiri, Lagos pending legal advice. The court did not take the plea of the defendant.
Chief Magistrate Tanimola adjourned the matter to September 4 for receipt legal advice .
The police prosecution, Nosa Uhumwangho, had earlier asked the court to remand the suspect in Police custody to enable them conclude investigation.
Uhumwangho said the defendant was found with 13 international passports with valid visas and some belonging to foreign nationals.
He also told the court that there are other gang members yet to be arrested.
He listed some of the evidences recovered from the defendant and before the court to include nine AK47, two pump action and two pistols.
He urged the court to remand the defendant in Police custody to enable them have access to him. But defence counsel, Adejare Kembi, opposed his submission saying that the request of the prosecution was a bridge of his rights to be defended.
Kembi urged the court to balance the rights of the defendant against the loud exhibits before the court.
Citing relevant section of ACJL 2015, he urged the court to remand the suspect in custody of NCoS.
The 11-count charge against the defendant bordered on conspiracy, possession of firearm, poisonous dagar, murder, attempted murder, grievous bodily harm, threat to life, possession of international passports, and possession of other dangerous arms, preferred against him by the Police.
The prosecution told the court that the defendant and others at large committed the offences between December 9, 2010, July 31, 2024 and April 5, 2025.
Uhumwangho said that the incidents took place at No 11, Mosalashi Street Mushin Lagos.
He told the court that the defendant knowingly killed one Yusuf Bolakale aged 30, and Yusuf Ramadan aged 23, by shooting them with AK-47 in his possession and absconded to Alagbado area of Lagos State where he was later arrested.
The defendant was also said to have on December 9, 2010, along Tiamiyu Street, Fadeyi killed a 10-year old girl, Aminat Lateef by shooting her with the Ak-47, in his possession while she was on errands and absconded to an unknown destination, at Alagbado area where he was tracked and arrested.
The defendant was also accused of killing one Anyila. ( surname unknown, Ojajo (surname unknown) and three others by shooting them directly with the AK- 47 rifle in his possession during a clash between his faction of unlawful society and another faction on July 31, 2024, at Idi-araba.
The prosecution further told the court that Olori Esho unlawfully had in his possession K2 assault rifle, AR 72739, two AK-47 rifles with No 0275,5688 and two locally made single barrel pistols, 70 rounds of 5.56 live ammunition, 27 rounds of 9mm, live ammunition, 57 cartridges, three walkie talkies and one poisonous dagar which he used in his unlawful society and couldn’t give a satisfactory of how they came into his possession.
The court also heard that Olori Esho, on February 17, 2011, at Awoniyi street, Idi-araba Mushin, attempted kill a 58 -year -old, woman, Awawu Ajalara, by shooting her both legs with Ak-47, in his possession and thereby causing her permanent disability.
He was also accused of threatening one Mohammad Ali, by tying him up with a rope and demanded the whereabouts of his boss Sego, after invading his resident at 1:30 a.m. on April 5, 2025, at No 4, Gbadamosi Close, Surulere Lagos.
Uhumwangho said that the defendant between 2009 and 2025, at Mushin whilst armed with dangerous weapons, went to cause fear and apprehension amongst the people of Mushin community and it’s environs without any authority in such a manner as to cause terror to the said community.
The prosecutor also told the court that sometimes between 2009 and 2002, Esho knowingly and unlawfully armed with firearms and other dangerous weapons, invaded and unlawfully grabbed victims landed properties and disposed off same property.
Uhumwangho alleged that Olori Esho, on July 31, 2024, at No 11, Mosalashi Street Mushin Lagos, was found in possession of stolen international passports in the name of Ganiyu Faliat Blessing, a national of Nigeria, Alade Sikiru, a national of Nigeria, Pichama Betrran Mbeghe, a national of the Republic of Guinea Bissau, Jubisa Aruna Damaris a national Republic Da Guine, Agbo Lucia Eta, national Republic Da Guine, Yougouda Assiatou, a national Republic Da Guine, Forchit Victory Muyang, a national Republic Du Cameroun.
Others are Dr Mashood Aladipo Haroona, national of Nigeria, Marcel Nguty Muda, a national of Republic Da Guine, Ojo Odunayo Idowu national of Nigeria, and Akinwande Wasiu Olufemi, a national of Nigeria, Haroona Ladi . O.M. a national of Nigeria, Aristide Nyuyki, a national of Republic Da Guine.
The prosecutor said that when Olori Esho was arrested, he was unable to give a satisfactory account to the police on how he came about the various international passports found in his possession.
The offences committed contravened Sections 233, 223, 27, (1), (a), (b)(ii), of the firearm Act laws of the federation of Nigeria 2004, as amended.
The offences also contravened sections 230 (a),245, 562,(1), (a),(2),51,(2), of the property protection law 2016, and 329, of the criminal laws of Lagos State 2015.
