JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia – The Organization of Islamic Cooperation, OIC has condemned the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu led Israeli Government for strings of assassination in the Gaza City, taking the lives of six journalists exposing the genocide and starvation orchestrated by the Israeli Defence Forces, IDF.
In a statement, the OIC named the affected journalists as Anas Al-Sharif, Mohammed Qreiqeh, Ibrahim Zaher, Mohammed Noufal, Moamen Aliwa, and Mohammad Al-Khaldi.
The journalists were killed when the Israeli army rained bombs on a journalists’ tent in Gaza City on Sunday.
“This incident is a direct assault on press freedom, representing an apparent infringement of international legal frameworks that safeguard journalistic integrity and media operations”, the OIC said.
The OIC also affirmed that the heinous crime is part of a series of systematic violations by Israel, the occupying power, against the media and its personnel in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, which it said has resulted in the martyrdom of 242 journalists since October 7, 2023.
“This is part of its attempts to obscure the truth, cover up its daily crimes, and prevent them from reaching global public opinion”, the OIC said.
The OIC unequivocally holds Israel, as the occupying power, accountable for this egregious violation, necessitating thorough investigation and accountability measures.
Furthermore, it urged pertinent international bodies to take swift action to cease the intentional and systematic targeting of journalists and media professionals within the Occupied Palestinian Territory.
It also emphasized the importance of extending protective measures to these individuals in line with international humanitarian law and applicable international treaties.
