WARRI, Delta, Nigeria –
Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Friday commissioned the new model office complex of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in Warri, using the occasion to reaffirm the State Government’s commitment to strategic partnership with the commission and the Federal Government on infrastructural development.
The Governor, who described the newly commissioned edifice as a “symbol of progress and collaboration,” restated his administration’s willingness to work hand-in-hand with the NDDC for the socio-economic transformation of the state.
”This building shows a new sense of development. Development is a continuous journey that requires innovation, collaboration, and vision,” Governor Oborevwori said, adding that his administration remains “irrevocably committed” to its partnership with the President Bola Tinubu-led federal government.
Highlighting a key area of collaboration, the Governor expressed the state’s readiness to partner with the NDDC on the crucial Warri-Escravos Road project.
”The Delta State Government is ready to partner with the NDDC on the Omadino-Warri-Escravos project,” he stated.
He commended the NDDC Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, for the timely completion of the office complex, noting that the new facility would enable the commission to “work even closer with our people.”
In his address, the Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, lauded the NDDC leadership for adhering to President Tinubu’s directive to complete abandoned projects across the Niger Delta region.
He cited the commissioning of roads, bridges, and electricity projects across Imo, Akwa Ibom, and Ondo states, which he said were being revived under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Minister confirmed that the Federal Government would collaborate with the Delta State Government on the Warri-Escravos Road once the proposal before the President is approved.
He urged stakeholders to set aside politics and acknowledge the development efforts of the Commission, encouraging staff to take ownership and ensure the magnificent office complex is properly maintained.
Institutionalising Presence and Strategic Guidance
Earlier, the Managing Director of the NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, described the commissioning as a significant step in the commission’s efforts to institutionalise its presence across the Niger Delta.
”Today, we celebrate the institutionalization of the NDDC in Delta State, and we are pleased to see the people of Warri turn out in large numbers to witness this historic occasion. This marks the third state office we have commissioned,” Ogbuku noted, while reaffirming the NDDC’s commitment to strategic partnerships aimed at improving the quality of life for the region’s people.
He also acknowledged the unwavering support of the National Assembly in ensuring the timely passage of the Appropriation Bill.
The Chairman of the NDDC Board, Mr Chiedu Ebie, emphasised the Board’s role in providing strategic guidance and direction to the management, citing the adoption of a working document from KPMG to guide implementation processes and internal reforms.
The ceremony attracted a host of dignitaries, including members of the NDDC Governing Board, the Executive Director, Finance and Administration, Alabo Boma Iyaye; the Executive Director, Projects, Dr Victor Antai; and the Executive Director, Corporate Services, Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde.
