WASHINGTON – BARACK OBAMA has launched a blistering attack on Donald Trump, claiming his rival is fighting a “ghost crime wave” in America’s cities.
The former US President completely dismissed claims of spiralling violence, branding the deployment of the National Guard in major metropolitan areas as a ridiculous political TRICK.
Obama, 64, tore into Trump’s “Law and Order” rhetoric during a rally, suggesting the ex-President was terrified of imaginary bogeymen.
“It’s like every day is Halloween,” Obama declared, to huge cheers. “Except it’s all tricks and no treats.”
The astonishing comments are set to escalate the bitter feud between the two men as they clash over the state of the nation.
Trump has repeatedly hammered “Democrat-run cities” for being soft on thugs and has used the National Guard deployments to back up his claims that US urban areas are descending into chaos.
But the former Commander-in-Chief insisted Trump was dealing with a problem that simply doesn’t exist.
Obama was crystal clear, stating the cities “DON’T have a crime problem” that warrants such drastic military action.
He mocked the move to send soldiers into the streets to tackle IMAGINARY crime waves, claiming it was a cynical political stunt.
The row means the gloves are well and truly off as the two heavyweights prepare for a brutal political scrap.
