ABUJA, Nigeria – There will no more be Mass Communication as a course in universities in Nigeria, the National Universities Commission(NUC) has said.
This is because the NUC has unbundled Mass Communication into areas where students can specialise.
NUC’s Executive Secretary, Prof. Abubakar Rasheed who made the revelation in Abuja said Mass Communication has been unbundled into Media Studies, Public Relations Studies, Cinematography, among others.
He said Mass Communication was unbundled into seven separate degree programmes to meet present demand adding that this takes effect from 2020 admissions into Nigerian universities.
The seven new Programmes/Departments according to the NUC are to be domiciled in a Faculty/ School/College of Communication and Media Studies are Journalism & Media Studies, Public Relations, Advertising, Broadcasting, Film & Multi-Media Studies, Development Communication Studies, Information & Media Studies.
