The First Lady of Anambra State, Dr. Mrs. Nonye Soludo, has cautioned against denying children their rights to childhood, education, healthcare, and a secure future. Mrs. Soludo made this known in a statement issued on Friday to mark the World Day Against Child Labour.

According to Mrs. Soludo, founder of the Nonye Soludo Healthy Living Initiative, every child deserves the freedom and opportunity to learn, dream, play, and grow in a safe, supportive, and promising environment.

She stressed that no child should be burdened with responsibilities that deprive him or her of childhood, education, good health, or the opportunity to realize their full potential.

“Today, as we observe the World Day Against Child Labour, let us renew our collective commitment to protecting the rights, dignity, and welfare of every child. We must continue to create opportunities that allow our children to thrive while addressing the social, cultural, and economic challenges that expose them to exploitation.

“Child labour is not just a crime against humanity; it is also a crime against conscience and faith,” she added.

Mrs. Soludo further emphasized the need for parents, guardians, community leaders, civil society organisations, and government institutions to work together to eliminate child labour and ensure that every child enjoys a safe, nurturing, and enabling environment for growth and development.

She reaffirmed her commitment to promoting policies and initiatives that safeguard children’s rights and enhance their access to education, healthcare, and other opportunities necessary for a brighter future” she said.
