September 15, 2014 – The Defence Headquarters has warned members of the public about the existence of a fake Facebook account being run by fraudsters as an account created by Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh.
In a statement by Director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade, the account is run by fraudsters that go by different identities but with the official photograph of the Chief of Defence Staff.
It warned that Chief of Defence has not created and does not run any Facebook account and that members of the public should not associate themselves with the account.
“The general public is hereby alerted of the existence of fake Facebook accounts on the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal AS Badeh. The Facebook accounts created by some cyber fraudsters, go by different fake identities and official photographs of the Chief of Defence Staff.
‘The Defence Headquarters wishes to state clearly that the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Sabundu Badeh does not operate either official or private Facebook account. The Defence Headquarters therefore dissociates the office of the Chief of Defence Staff from these fraudulent Facebook accounts.
“Any correspondence or exchange of messages on the platform has nothing to do with the office or person of the Chief of Defence Staff. This is for the awareness of the general public, please”, the statement added.
