GURGAON, India – A clash between students from Nigeria and other African students has forced Nigerian students out of GD Goenka University in Gurgaon, India.
The Nigerians and other African students were evicted when violence erupted between Indian students, the Nigerians and other Africans, forcing many to wield clubs, which they used on one another putting the situation out of control.
Although information about the cause of the incident is sketchy, but students of the school say that it has a lot to do with the pitch. According to one source, “Africans wanted to use it for football and Indians wanted to play cricket”.
However, the development, which resulted in mob action against the Nigerians has forced the school to issue temporary eviction notice to the Nigerian students and those from other African countries.
Gurgaon Police is saying that it has registered reports from both sides in the clash.
According to FIR lodged at the Police Station by Sultan Khan, about 5 Nigerian students abused and beat him up with sticks and rods.
Shanks D. Shiva, an Indian student said a criminal complaint has been opened for both the Indian and the Nigerian students at the Sohna Police Station for causing hurting and criminal intimidation.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian students have been evacuated to the Nigerian High Commission in India.
