NIGERIA’S Super Eagles have shot down claims of a dressing room “rumpus” following their 4-0 demolition of Mozambique.
Rumours of a rift between star strikers Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman ignited on social media after the pair were seen exchanging heated gestures during a corner kick in Monday’s AFCON masterclass.
But team administrator Dayo Enebi Achor has moved quickly to pour cold water on the “dark innuendoes,” insisting the two players are as tight as ever.
”There is no problem whatsoever in our camp,” Achor confirmed from Morocco.
“Whatever people saw as a crisis between two brothers was easily resolved a couple of hours later. All is good and we are presently at training.”
The Super Eagles are flying high after booking their spot in the last-eight, inspired by a brace from deputy captain Osimhen. The former Napoli man has now bagged 34 goals in 50 matches, leaving him just three strikes behind the legendary Rashidi Yekini’s all-time record of 37.
Lookman also silenced the doubters with a sensational display, bagging a goal and three assists to add to his tournament tally.
Achor also laughed off bizarre reports that goalscorer Jerome Akor Adams had “abandoned” the camp.
The striker, who netted his first AFCON goal on the night, had actually been given permission to visit his mother in a local hospital for less than an hour.
With the squad boasting a clean bill of health—aside from youngster Ryan Alebiosu who is continuing his recovery—Nigeria will fly to Marrakech on Thursday.
They face a mouth-watering quarter-final clash on Saturday against either Algeria or DR Congo, as they hunt for their fourth continental title.
