ABUJA, Nigeria – The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF has set aside the N500,000 fine slammed on Campos FC by the Nationwide League, NLO.
In a statement, the NFF said said A&A FC had alleged that there was match fixing in the game against Campos FC because the suspected club scored 15 goals in one encounter against A&A FC.
The statement added that Campos FC had no credible evidence back the allegation which was based on grumbling by third party.
The NFF however directed further investigation into the matter in view of the gravity of the alleged offence.
FINDINGS:
1. The Committee found out that the case of alleged match fixing levelled against Campos FC was based on the following:
i. Campos FC scored 15 goals against A & A FC.
ii. That based on the information received by the NLO, some players of A & A FC were heard grumbling and saying that, the money promised to them was not given.
2. The audio recording submitted to the Committee by the NLO as evidence of the case of match fixing against Campos FC was a conversation between a third party and an officer of NLO alleging that some players of A & A FC told him that there was a match fixing.
3. The Committee found out that, Campos FC was never invited to respond to the allegation of match fixing levelled against them at any time material in the course of investigation by the NLO.
DECISIONS:
Based on the above findings, the Committee decides as follows:
1. In the absence of credible evidence to show that the match between Campos FC v. A & A FC was actually fixed by Campos FC and the denial of fair hearing to Campos FC, the decision of NLO of suspending Campos FC for 2 years and the fine of Five Hundred Thousand Naira (N500,000.00) are hereby set aside pending the outcome of further investigation.
2. In view of the gravity of the offence of match fixing, the Committee hereby directs the NFF Integrity Unit to carry out thorough and proper investigation into the allegations.
3. That the above decisions are without prejudice to the right of appeal.
