IBADAN, NIGERIA – The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) concluded its 2025 Annual General Assembly (AGA) on Saturday, September 27th, in Ibadan, Oyo State, with a unanimous vote of confidence in the leadership of the NFF Executive Committee, led by President Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau.
The AGA, held at the Emeritus Professor Theophilus Ogunlesi Hall, saw the Congress fully endorse the Executive Committee’s resolve to ensure the Super Eagles’ qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The communique issued at the close of the meeting urged sustained technical and administrative support for all National Teams to achieve this goal and other future successes.
The football body celebrated the significant achievements of the National Teams over the past year.
Top on the list was the Super Falcons’ 10th Women Africa Cup of Nations title, along with the Super Eagles’ successful qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The performances of the Flying Eagles, Falconets, and Flamingos on the global stage also received high praise.
In financial matters, the Congress examined and duly approved the audited financial statements for the year ended December 31, 2024, as presented by PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Furthermore, the Federation’s budget proposal for the 2026 financial year was approved.
A procedural change was also enacted, with the Congress approving the advertisement for a new external auditor, as the mandatory tenure for PricewaterhouseCoopers has been completed.
Looking ahead, the NFF AGA underscored the strategic importance of grassroots football development.
The Executive Committee was directed to intensify efforts in key areas: talent discovery, refereeing capacity building, coaching education, and infrastructural enhancement, aligning these initiatives with directives from both FIFA and CAF.
In a strong appeal to government entities, the Congress called on all State Governments to invest more in standard football infrastructure to meet stringent FIFA and CAF requirements necessary for hosting international matches.
The Federation also acknowledged steady improvements across all domestic leagues—the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Nigeria National League (NNL), Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL), and Nationwide League One (NLO)—urging league bodies and State Football Associations to maintain the drive for higher standards.
NFF President Gusau expressed gratitude to Nigeria’s President, His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for the Federal Government’s unwavering backing of Nigerian football. Commendation was also extended to the National Sports Commission, led by Mallam Shehu Dikko, for their resolute support.
The host, Oyo State Governor, His Excellency Engineer Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, received profound appreciation for hosting the 81st AGA and for the arrangements made for the Falconets’ 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifier against Rwanda. The Congress affirmed the state capital, Ibadan’s readiness to host major international football events.
On the international front, the Congress extended appreciation to FIFA President Gianni Infantino and CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe for their consistent and invaluable support for the growth of Nigerian football.
Finally, the Congress noted progress on the FIFA-mandated amendments to the NFF Statutes (2010 as amended) and assured that an Extraordinary General Assembly would be convened to conclude the process at the appropriate time.
