NEMA Tasks States on Indigenes, as FG Evacuates 1,113 from Central African Republic

Director General, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Alhaji Mohammad Sani-Sidi, has called on state governments whose indigenes were evacuated from the crisis ridden Central African Republic (CAR) to collect them from the Hajj camp in Abuja.

Sani-Sidi who made the appeal on Sunday, while inspecting the Hajj Camp which is currently accommodating all evacuated citizens, said prompt collection of evacuees from the camp by affected states would reduce their sufferings.

”The immediate collection of the evacuees will facilitate their integration into the society. The affected state governments had since been contacted to collect their indigenes from the camp. They were interviewed in Bangui and certified to be Nigerians,” he said.

Meanwhile, a total of 1,113 Nigerians have been evacuated from CAR between January 3rd and 4th.Borno has the highest number of returnees with more than 300 evacuees while Anambra was second with more than 280 evacuees.

Mr Umar Abubakar, an indigene of Borno, who is being treated for bullet wounds he secured during the crisis said he was shot on the chest while trying to run to safety.
