PORT HARCOURT Harcourt – The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, Ph.D. As a mark of respect for the departed leader, the Commission has announced the postponement of its scheduled project commissioning activities in the state.
The commissioning of projects, which was slated to hold on December 16, 2025, has been shelved by the NDDC Board and Management following the unfortunate development.
In a heartfelt condolence message released on Monday, December 15, 2025, and jointly signed by the Chairman of the Governing Board, Mr. Chiedu Ebie, and the Managing Director/CEO, Chief Samuel Ogbuku, Ph.D., the NDDC conveyed its condolences to the Government and People of Bayelsa State.
The Commission praised Senator Ewhrudjakpo, describing him as a man of candour, unwavering commitment, and exceptional dedication to public service. These virtues, the NDDC noted, earned him the well-deserved reputation of a tireless and “workaholic” Deputy Governor.
Recalling his impactful career, the NDDC highlighted his pivotal role in advancing infrastructural development during his tenure as Commissioner for Works in Bayelsa State. The statement further acknowledged his distinguished service as a Senator representing Bayelsa West in the 9th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“Senator Ewhrudjakpo consistently demonstrated competence, vision, and an unyielding passion for the progress of his people. His life was defined by service, sacrifice, and a resolute commitment to the common good,” the message read.
The late Deputy Governor was further extolled for serving Bayelsa State and Nigeria with remarkable humility, sincerity, and patriotism, embodying integrity and simplicity and setting a shining example.
The NDDC concluded by stating that Senator Ewhrudjakpo’s legacy of selfless service, principled leadership, and devotion to humanity will endure and continue to inspire generations yet unborn.
The Commission prayed for the Almighty God to grant comfort, strength, and fortitude to all who mourn the loss and for the gentle soul of Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo to find eternal rest.
