​NDDC boosts Rivers healthcare delivery, donates vital medical equipment to Orogbum Health Centre

​PORT HARCOURT—In a bid to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and improve access to quality medical services in the Niger Delta, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has donated essential medical equipment to the Model Primary Health Care Centre in Orogbum Community, Port Harcourt Local Government Area of Rivers State.

​Speaking during the official handover ceremony at the facility, the Managing Director of the NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, stated that the intervention directly aligns with the Commission’s core mandate to enhance healthcare delivery and uplift the well-being of rural and urban communities across the region.
​Dr. Ogbuku, who was represented by the NDDC Director of Education, Health, and Social Services, Dr. Patience Ezugu, emphasized that access to functional healthcare facilities remains critical to achieving sustainable development in the Niger Delta.

​“The NDDC remains committed to promoting quality healthcare infrastructure and ensuring that communities in the Niger Delta have access to essential medical services. This intervention reflects our dedication to improving the lives and well-being of our people,” Ogbuku said.

​He further noted that the donation is part of a broader, sustained effort by the Commission to equip regional healthcare institutions with the necessary tools and resources to ensure efficient and effective medical service delivery.

​Receiving the equipment on behalf of the health facility, the Executive Secretary of the Rivers State Primary Healthcare Management Board, Dr. Chituru Adele, expressed deep appreciation to the NDDC leadership.

He described the donation as a timely and significant boost to the facility’s capacity to handle local health challenges.

​”I thank the NDDC for providing this medical equipment and supporting the Primary Health Centre for the benefit of the people of the Niger Delta,” Dr. Adele stated.

​Also speaking at the event, the Director of Medical Services for the Rivers State Primary Healthcare Management Board, Dr. Tonye Lawson-Jack, categorized the donated items as crucial diagnostic tools that would instantly elevate the quality of patient care.

​Dr. Lawson-Jack, however, charged the management of the Orogbum health centre to maintain high standards of accountability, urging them to ensure the equipment is properly maintained and utilized.

He additionally called on the NDDC to establish a monitoring framework to measure the long-term impacts of their interventions.

​“If you invest in a project, you should be interested in seeing that the investment grows. When we are doing well, tell others; when we are not doing well, let us know so we can improve,” Lawson-Jack added.

​Expressing gratitude on behalf of the frontline workers, the Head of the Orogbum Primary Health Centre, Dr. Nwabueze Blessing, remarked that the newly acquired tools would drastically improve the daily workflow for healthcare workers while ensuring better clinical outcomes for patients.

​Similarly, the Chairman of the Orogbum Community Development Committee (CDC), Mr. Bright Ogbonda, commended the NDDC Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, praising his “transformational leadership” and visible commitment to human capital and infrastructural development across the Niger Delta states.

​The medical intervention package distributed by the Commission to the health centre includes, among other items:
​Standard Glucometers (for blood sugar monitoring)
​Ergonomic Examination Couches
​Advanced Surgical Instruments
​Essential Diagnostic Equipment
