PORT HARCOURT – The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has raised an alarm over the activities of fraudsters targeting Nigerian youths with a fake N50,000 monthly stipend under its Youth Internship Scheme.
In a disclaimer issued on Wednesday by the Director of Corporate Affairs, Seledi Thompson-Wakama, the Commission warned the public to be wary of messages circulating on social media platforms requesting account details for the purported scheme.
The Fraudulent Scheme
According to the Commission, the scammers are luring unsuspecting individuals by promising a monthly payment of N50,000 to “all Nigerian youths.” The NDDC clarified that these criminals are using the Commission’s legitimate empowerment initiatives as a smokescreen for their deceptive activities.
”It is indeed disturbing that some mischievous individuals are trying to take advantage of our youths who are genuinely eager to be gainfully engaged in legitimate activities,” the statement read.
Verification and Official Channels
The NDDC emphasized that its Youth Internship Scheme is based on a painstakingly documented database of beneficiaries drawn from the Niger Delta region. The Commission noted that while many youths have already registered and benefited from the programme, any new updates would be communicated through official means.
The Commission urged members of the public to ignore unofficial messages and verify all information through its authorized platforms.
How to Verify NDDC Programmes:
Official Website: www.nddc.gov.ng
Social Media: Verified NDDC handles
Physical Inquiries: Official information platforms at the Commission’s offices.
The management reiterated its commitment to genuine youth empowerment while advising those seeking livelihoods to remain vigilant against the antics of online predators.
