UYO, Akwa Ibom State – The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Campaign Organisation has strongly reacted to reports surrounding the recent action by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at its governorship campaign office in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, describing the incident as a desperate attempt by political detractors to derail its momentum ahead of the upcoming gubernatorial election.

In an official statement released on October 1, 2026, by the Director of Media and Publicity for the Babantan Governorship Campaign Organisation, the party alleged that state actors and political opponents are resorting to federal law enforcement agencies to intimidate its governorship candidate, Rt. Hon. Dr. Michael Enyong, widely known by his political moniker “Babantan.”

Allegations of Political Intimidation and Harassment

Addressing party supporters and newsmen in Uyo, the campaign organisation emphasized that no level of administrative harassment or politically manufactured controversy would stifle the grassroots movement built around Dr. Enyong. The party described the “Babantan” campaign as an unstoppable force rooted in the collective resolve of the Akwa Ibom electorate, who are yearning for genuine leadership, poverty reduction, and economic revitalization.

”We categorically state that any attempts by state actors, political detractors, or desperate opponents to use federal law enforcement agencies as weapons of political intimidation against our principal, Rt. Hon. Dr. Michael Enyong, popularly known as ‘Babantan’, will fail,” the statement read.

The party maintained that its campaign structure is built on the desires of the people rather than physical structures, asserting that arbitrary seals or official disruptions cannot suppress the electoral aspirations of the populace across the 31 local government areas of Akwa Ibom State.

Key Clarifications by the NDC Campaign Organisation

To reassure supporters and clarify the situation to the public, the leadership of the NDC and the Babantan Campaign Team outlined three critical positions regarding the ongoing developments:

Unshaken Legitimacy: The campaign organisation affirmed that Rt. Hon. Dr. Michael Enyong remains the fully cleared, officially recognized, and confirmed governorship candidate of the NDC in Akwa Ibom State. It added that all administrative structures of the party remain intact, fully functional, and actively expanding state-wide.

Call for Institutional Neutrality: While reiterating its respect for federal institutions and the rule of law, the NDC urged the EFCC to maintain absolute neutrality. The campaign organization cautioned the anti-graft agency against allowing itself to be weaponized by political elements panicked by the candidate’s growing popularity.

Uninterrupted Campaign Operations: The party confirmed that its consultative visits, strategic planning, and grassroots mobilization initiatives are progressing without interruption across all local government areas in the state.

The campaign organization urged party faithful, volunteers, and the people of Akwa Ibom State to remain peaceful, calm, and law-abiding despite what it characterized as orchestrated distractions by rival political factions. According to the party, the recent events at its Uyo office are clear indications that competing political camps are in severe panic over the rising acceptance of the NDC’s candidate.

Describing Dr. Enyong as “The Lion of Akwa Ibom politics,” the statement concluded by reassuring voters that all official processes regarding his candidacy have been successfully completed, and no administrative action can thwart the democratic will of the people.

The NDC reiterated its core motto, “Service to the People,” promising to maintain focus on delivering its campaign promises as the election season progresses.
