Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Lagos has called on the Federal Government to take urgent steps to address the deplorable state of infrastructure in Federal High Courts in the state. The association made the call during a courtesy call to the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola by Chairmen of the Lagos State and Ikeja chapter of the union, Messrs. Taiwo Taiwo and Monday Ubani in Ikeja, Lagos.

“From our investigation, we found out that the court isn’t functioning. And the judges are having challenge with the issue of accommodation. The court is also having challenges with the issue of power supply, most times they spend over N3 million monthly in powering the generator. We want the court to function so that it will reduce congestion in Ikoyi High Court” , Lagos state chairman, Taiwo Taiwo said.

In his remarks, the Lagos state Governor Mr. Babatunde Fashola said that 70 roads have been awarded for reconstruction and rehabilitation in the state. According to the governor, the new move by the government to reconstruct additional number of roads is to ensure that more roads are motorable in the state. He said that the proposed projects have increased the number of roads awarded since the commencement of his second term to 230 roads.

“We set ourselves the target in the second term to complete about 450 roads. Last year, we awarded about 160 roads. This year, we have awarded about 70 roads. This signifies our intention this year that we are more concerned about road construction this year. “We have already completed about half of the roads we set out to achieve. But again, we can only award that much if we were able to complete much. That was why this year’s project was based on completing the inner roads in the state. The decision making for which road to deal with first, is based on the road that carries the most traffic,” he said.
