ABUJA, Nigeria – Senator representing Kogi Central, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has been suspended from the Nigerian Senate for daring to accuse President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment.
The adorable senator, one of the most vocal in the Senate seeking restoration of the famous Ajaokuta Steel Complex had alleged that Akpabio told her in his office, “You can achieve a whole lot, just make me happy” in her quest to ensure life is brought back to the complex for the betterment of her people and specifically for her constituents.
The Senator Committee on Ethics had rejected her petition on the ground that she signed it against the rules, even without looking at the content.
They also went ahead to impose six months suspension on her in addition suspending her allowance.
But she has vowed to continue to serve her constituent.
In her latest message, Natasha said her suspension will not stand because it violates principle of natural Justice and fair hearing.
According to her, against the culture of silence and victim shaming, my unjust suspension from the Nigerian Senate invalidates the principle of natural Justice, fairness and equity.
She added, ” the illegal suspension does not withdraw my legitimacy as a senator of the federal Republic of Nigeria.
“And I will continue to use my duly elected office to serve my constituents and country to the best of my ability till 2027 and beyond”.
