LAGOS, Nigeria – The Lagos State Police Command, led by Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu has come under attack by a non-governmental organization, Know Your Rights for Justice for his alleged refusal to hand over Inspector Caroline Kalu Orieke to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC for prosecution after he admitted to have used Miss Dorcas Mobaghan to fraudulently lodge N50 million into a commercial bank.
In a statement, Chairman of the group, Comrade Olusegun Adeeko said this is taking place even after the Lagos State Police Command had carried out an orderly room trial for the alleged crime.
The group said it is disheartening that this is taking place despite the change mantra mounted by the Muhammadu Buhari administration.
Know Your Right for Justice is of the view that Kalu Orieke is walking the street a free person, whereas Miss Dorcas is being haunted by the EFCC in Lagos and Port Harcourt.
In a letter to the Zonal Head, EFCC, dated 13th August 2021, the NGO noted that Mrs. Dorcas Ojihmenogu was arrested by a team of EFCC operatives from EIFS on the 4th of May, 2021 and was granted an administrative bail.
“Know your rights for justice provided the surety that stood for her bail when she was arrested…
“Miss Dorcas averred that it was when she was arrested and detained that she got to know her customer called Inspector Caroline Kalu Orieke, which she lawfully assisted to use her account number to receive the sum of N50 million.
“She was then informed that the money which was paid to her account was fraud money by some syndicates at Port Harcourt, Rivers State that needed her. The operatives that interrogated her at EIFS office was Adamz Hassan.
“Miss Dorcas averred that on the 17th of May, 2021, she went to Port Harcourt in Rivers State EFCC office to clear her golden name and to say her involvement in the illegal transaction of N50 million”, she said, adding that she was further interrogated by EFCC operative called Chichi at the Port Harcourt office.
“She said she went through a rogue’s intensive interrogation and she was finally granted bail on self recognizance based on the fact that she was not criminally involved in the fraud allegations. She was mandated to produce Inspector Caroline Kalu Orieke to either Lagos office of the EFCC or Rivers State office”, she said, adding that Inspector Caroline Kalu Orieke was arrested following a petition to FCID Alagbon and the Inspector General of Police.
The NGO stated that she was interrogated by Police X Squad officer, Esan Adeleke where she admitted to the crime but was released and later rearrested by the Lagos State Police Command.
Miss Dorcas averred that Inspector Caroline was told she will be relieved of her job upon admission to the crime and handed over to the EFCC for prosecution.
“She finally avers that the Lagos State Police Command released her and she is back at her duty post at the Festac Divisional Police Headquarters without doing the needful of handing her over to the EFCC Lagos office as earlier promised” for prosecution.
