Nigeria, May, 20, 2016 – A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos today sentenced former Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency(NIMASA), Dr. Raymond Omatseye to five years imprisonment.

The former DG was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)on a 27-count charge of bid rigging and contract splitting worth over N1.5m.

This anti-graft agency said the offences contravened Section 58(4) (d) of the Public Procurement Act, 2007.
Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia found Mr. Omatseye guilty of 24 out 27 charges and consequently sentenced him to five years imprisonment.

Counsel to the accused, Mr Edoka Onyeke had urged the court to discountenance the arguments of prosecution and dismiss the charge against his client.
