NASARAWA, Nigeria – Deposed Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II has regained his freedom. He was granted freedom shortly after Justice Anwuli Chikere of a Federal High Court Abuja ordered his release.
Muhammadu Sanusi II was dethroned by Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and replaced with Nasir Ado Bayero and thereafter banished to Awe, Nasarawa State, fueling public condemnation of the exercise.
Justice Anwuli Chikere gave the order after hearing the prayers of Muhammadu Sanusi’s counsel, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN).
The order directed service at the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Attorney General of Kano State and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) – who are all named as respondents in a fundamental rights enforcement suit filed on March 12, 2020 by Sanusi, through his lawyer.
Prior to the order, the Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai who had given him two appointments travelled by road to meet with the deposed Emir in Nasarawa, and prayed with him in Awe where Ganduje had held him captive.
His Highness, Muhammadu Sanusi is presently on his way to Abuja. In his company is the Kaduna State Governor, who shared photograph of both of them departing Awe by road.
“Governor Malam Nasir @nelrufai with HH Muhammadu Sanusi II on their way to Abuja”, aides of El-Rufai said in caption to the photographs.
