AWKA, Anambra – The First Lady of Anambra State, Dr Mrs Nonye Soludo, has described the mother tongue as a priceless treasure that every individual should cherish and preserve.
Dr Soludo, wife of the Governor and founder of the Nonye Soludo Healthy Living Initiative, made this assertion on her official Facebook page, Nonye Soludo.
She emphasised that no one is better positioned to protect a language than its native speakers, noting that ownership comes with responsibility.
According to her, there is no shame in speaking one’s mother tongue or in celebrating its beauty and uniqueness. Rather, she urged people to take pride in their linguistic heritage and to promote it boldly.
In her words:“Speak it without fear, without limitation, and without apology. The major reason our mother language is fast disappearing is that we do not celebrate it enough. Our culture is incomplete if it does not reflect the distinctiveness of the language that connects us as a community. Language is a true identity.
Your mother tongue is your emblem of socio-cultural participation. Let no one tell you that you cannot speak it. Speak it. Cherish it. Be proud of it.
Abụ m ezigbo onye Igbo hụrụ asụsụ ya n’anya nke ukwuu!”
Dr Soludo reaffirmed her identity and love for the Igbo language, encouraging Ndị Igbo and other indigenous communities to preserve their languages as vital pillars of culture, identity, and heritage.
