BENUE, Nigeria -The Senator representing Benue South Senatorial District, Distinguished Senator Abba Moro was, on Wednesday, honoured with THE PARLIAMENTARIAN OF THE DECADE award by the Agricultural Produce Sellers Association Of Nigeria (APSAN).
The award is in recognition of the Senator’s promotion of Agribusiness in Nigeria. The National President of the Association, Mr Aloy Akortsaha, who led the delegation, said Senator Moro had contributed massively to Agricultural revolution in Nigeria through his numerous Bills and Motions on the floor of the Senate, and deserves to be honoured.
Recall that Senator Moro recently proposed a Bill on the establishment of Nigeria Agricultural Harvest and Processing Free Zone, Atanganyi, Benue State, which passed First Reading on the floor of the Senate.
The Senator is also sponsoring a Bill on the establishment of Federal College of Agricultural Technology, which will contribute to the development of Nigeria through training of qualitative manpower by adequate exposure to sound theoretical background, practical farm and field demonstration as well as knowledge capacity development for staff. The Bill has passed Second Reading. And so many other Agriculture-related activities by the Senator on the floor of the Senate.
Senator Moro thanked the group for the recognition and said he was greatly encouraged to keep adding value to his Constituents and Nigerians at large. He decried the activities of marauding herdsmen that have continued to hamper farming activities, especially in Benue State where people are abandoning their homes and farmlands in droves because of herders’ attacks.
He called on the relevant government agencies to intensify efforts to arrest the ugly situation so that farmers can return to their farms without let or hindrance.
He commended the group and charged them to keep up their activities, while promising to partner with them to achieve their set-out goals.
