ONITSHA, Nigeria – Anambra State  Commissioner of Police , Mr Monday Bala Kuryas has  declared that the command  under him would deploy all energy and efforts towards prevention and fighting crime in the state .

He also warned officers and men of the command against professional misconduct insisting that any officer found wanting  would face the full wrath of the law. The Commissioner gave the assurance and warning during his maiden  press briefing at the state command Awka on Tuesday .

He said that the command under him, will reinvigorate operation Puff Adder 11 by giving it more bite to tackle cultism ,robbery ,kidnapping and illegal revenue collections in the state ,especially in Onitsha, Obosi, Mkpor, Enugu-Agidi and Nnewi.

Kuryas said that the command under him will continue to work hard to sustain the status of Anambra state as the safest state in the country. He called for their support and trust in police as they could not effectively fight crimes without the cooperation of the public. He advised the criminal elements in the state to relocate or have a rethink about their activities as the state would be too hot for them .

” On assumption of duty in the state within the last few days ,I have been  fully briefed on a few criminal and security challenges in the state at the moment . These include the menace of one chance armed robbery gangs ,armed robbery ,kidnapping ,cultism ,illegal revenue collectors and of course dispute over land ,kingship ,boundaries ,farmers /herders clash and sundry offences . Undoubtedly ,the command under my predecessor AIG John Abang recorded many success and we shall consolidate  and improve upon them ” he said

In this vein, I urge all personnel of the command to avoid  corrupt practices and indiscipline, noting that the  command will sustain the existing inter- agency collaboration and improve on our respect for the Rule of Law and fundamental​ Human Rights in accordance with international best practices.

He  also  lamented the menace of fake news which he said is capable of causing widespread disaffections, chaos and disruptions of public peace in the state .

“May I use this medium to warm the purveyors of such fake news in the state  through whatever means to desist henceforth or face the full wrath of the law whenever they are apprehended.
