A SCHOOLGIRL has miraculously cheated death by mere millimetres after a horror plunge from a garage roof left her impaled on a tree branch.

The youngster was rushed to an emergency ward with a terrifying 14-centimeter (5.5-inch) wooden spike clean through her neck following the freak accident.

Terrified onlookers feared the worst as emergency services scrambled to the scene in the Russian city of Rostov-on-Don.

But in a twist that has stunned the medical world, the girl survived the gruesome ordeal virtually unscathed. Doctors operating on the youngster confirmed she was “incredibly lucky” to be drawing breath, after the jagged branch somehow bypassed every single major artery and vital nerve in her throat.

The drama unfolded when the adventurous youth was playing on top of a residential garage complex. Witnesses say she lost her footing on the structure, slipping over the edge and hurtling toward the ground below.

But her fall was brutally interrupted by a nearby tree. Instead of breaking her fall, a thick, sharp branch pierced right through her neck, pinning her in a real-life horror movie scenario.

Paramedics carefully cut the youngster free from the tree before rushing her to a nearby trauma center with the large piece of timber still protruding from her flesh.

Surgeons immediately rushed her into the operating theatre, bracing for a catastrophic hemorrhage. Yet, as they began the delicate task of extracting the wood, they discovered a miracle.

A medical spokesperson in Rostov-on-Don said: “The patient was incredibly lucky. The branch entered the neck but managed to completely miss the carotid artery, the jugular vein, and the essential nerves that control breathing and movement. A fraction of a millimeter in either direction would have meant instant death.”

The wooden spike was successfully removed during an intense operation. Images from the hospital show the staggering size of the blood-stained branch next to a ruler, proving just how close the youngster came to a fatal injury.

Remarkably, the girl is now awake, stable, and recovering well in hospital, with doctors expecting her to make a full, uncomplicated recovery.

1. The Anatomy of a Near-Miss
The human neck is one of the most vulnerable parts of the body, housing the carotid arteries (which supply blood to the brain) and the jugular veins (which take blood back to the heart).

When a foreign object penetrates this area, the risk of exsanguination (bleeding to death) within minutes is incredibly high. For a blunt, jagged object like a 14-cm tree branch to pass entirely through this tight network of vessels without tearing them open is classified by medical professionals as an extreme statistical anomaly.

2. The Danger of “Garage Hopping”
This incident highlights a growing concern across Eastern European cities, including Rostov-on-Don, regarding youth safety. Low-rise, flat-roofed concrete garage boxes—known locally as garazhi—are often built close together in residential courtyards.

They frequently become accidental playgrounds for local children who climb them to socialise or perform stunts. Tree branches growing closely between these tightly packed structures create severe hazards for falls, as highlighted by this near-fatal accident.
