TYRONE MINGS proved he is still the king of the castle as his late intervention scrambled Aston Villa to a gritty 1-0 win over Brighton.

On a night where the stars aligned for Unai Emery’s Champions League chasers, it wasn’t a moment of Brazilian magic or a Watkins wonder-strike that settled it. Instead, it was the sheer presence of defensive titan Tyrone Mings that forced the breakthrough, with his 86th-minute header deflecting off the unfortunate Jack Hinshelwood to send the Holte End into a frenzy.

While the scoreline was slim, the star power was high.

All eyes were on Brighton’s evergreen James Milner, who stepped onto the pitch in the 20th minute to make his 653rd Premier League appearance.

The former Villa favorite equalled Gareth Barry’s all-time record, proving that age is just a number for the 40-year-old marvel.

But if Milner provided the history, Emiliano “Dibu” Martinez provided the heroics.

The World Cup winner showed why he’s considered the best on the planet, producing a jaw-dropping fingertip save to turn Ferdi Kadioglu’s second-half rocket onto the crossbar. Without the Argentine’s golden gloves, Villa’s top-four charge might have stalled.

The game was a tactical chess match between Emery and Brighton’s Fabian Hurzeler.

Villa’s midfield engine, Amadou Onana, was a colossus, winning duels and driving the home side forward when the going got tough. Meanwhile, Ian Maatsen was a constant spark on the left, terrorizing the Seagulls’ flank with his pace.

Brighton had their moments, with Kaoru Mitoma flickering into life, but they couldn’t find a way past a resolute Villa backline anchored by the returning Mings.

As the clock ticked toward a stalemate, Villa’s subs injected the necessary “va-va-voom.” Leon Bailey swung in a corner with precision, Mings rose highest at the near post, and the ball ricocheted off Hinshelwood to leave Bart Verbruggen helpless.

The win sees Villa tighten their grip on third place, moving five points clear of the chasing pack. For Brighton, it’s a case of “close but no cigar” as their winless run stretches on.
