WASHINGTON – Owner of Facebook, Metta is laying off a total of 11,000 workers, Chief Executive Officer of the company, Mark Zuckerberg has announced.
Mark Zuckerberg made the revelation in a statement he made available to AFP.
According to the statement, Zuckerberg described the development as the most difficult decision it has made in recent times.
The 11,000 workers constitutes about 13 percent of its total workforce of about 87,000 people.
“I know this is tough for everyone, and I’m especially sorry to those impacted.
“Many people predicted this would be a permanent acceleration. I did too, so I made the decision to significantly increase our investments.”
He said macroeconomic downturn and increased competition brought his revenue much lower than expected
“I got this wrong, and I take responsibility for that,” he said.
