QATAR – Lionel  Messi showed class in the quarter final encounter between Argentina and Netherlands in the 4-3 win over opponent on penalty kicks at the Lusail Stadium in Qatar.

But it was such a classic encounter that saw a great deal of rough play and unprofessional attitude by Netherlands and some yellow cards to non- players, the Argentine coach, leading the pack for stepping into the field of play while dishing out instructions to players in the tension soaked encounter.

Nahuel Molina put his team ahead in the 35th minutes when he connected a very low pass from Lionel Messi to put scores at 1-0.

Messi made it 2-0 for his side through a  penalty kick in the 73rd minutes when Netherlands tripped Marcos Acuna in the 71st  minutes.

Weghorst however  pulled one goal back in the 83rd minutes, after connecting  a pass from Berghuis to put the scores at 2-1.

Weghorst made it 2-2 in injury time, following sustained pressure on Argentina, which yielded a free kick that was well converted by Netherlands, pushing the game into extra time.

Pressure mounted by Argentina on Netherlands however failed to yield the desired result pushing the game into penalty kicks with Messi’s Argentina having the upper hand.
