OUTSPOKEN Nigerian Senator Dino Melaye has sensationally claimed the path is being cleared for mass election rigging after a controversial decision to snub electronic vote transmission.
In a stinging attack that has sent shockwaves through the West African nation, Melaye—a heavyweight in Nigerian politics—warned that the country is taking a “step backward” into the dark ages of democratic fraud.
The row erupted after the Senate rejected a move to make the electronic transmission of election results mandatory.
Critics argue the high-tech system is the only way to stop crooked officials from swapping ballot boxes and “cooking the books” during transit.
Melaye, a qualified lawyer and veteran campaigner, didn’t mince his words, branding the rejection a “clear endorsement” of electoral malpractice.
In an explosive statement released today, he fumed: “This is an indication of a sinister plan to rig the 2027 elections.”
He claimed the decision “undermines the credibility” of the entire voting process and effectively “opens the door for manipulation and fraud.”
Nigeria, which has a history of turbulent elections, is already looking toward the 2027 polls.
Melaye is now calling on the public and fellow lawmakers to “stand up” against what he describes as a “blatant attempt” to crush the will of the people.
The Senator’s “red alert” has sparked a firestorm of debate across the country, with many fearing the “unpatriotic move” will leave the next election wide open to the highest bidder.
As tensions rise, all eyes are now on the government to see if they will double down on the snub or bow to the massive public outcry for a fair fight at the ballot box.
