LAGOS, NIGERIA—The power brokers of Nigeria’s ruling party have thrown their full weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent overhaul of the national security apparatus, declaring the protection of citizens a “non-negotiable obligation!”
Governors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) held a massive two-day strategy meeting in Lagos, hosted by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, where they affirmed their unwavering loyalty to a “united, peaceful and prosperous” Nigeria.
In a bold show of strength, the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), led by Imo State Governor Senator Hope Uzodimma, showered praise on Tinubu’s handling of the security nightmare facing the country.
”The safety of lives and property remains a non-negotiable obligation of government,” Uzodimma declared, reading from a tough-talking communiqué.
ECONOMIC PAIN
The elite group pledged to boost their local security architecture, promising to pump resources into intelligence gathering and conflict prevention to back up Tinubu’s Federal efforts.
But security wasn’t the only fire on the agenda!
The Governors acknowledged the “temporary burdens” and “cost-of-living pressures” hitting ordinary Nigerians hard following massive economic reforms.
Despite the pain, the PGF hailed Tinubu’s commitment to “stabilising the economy” through his ‘Renewed Hope Agenda.’
They vowed to intensify state-level interventions to ease the squeeze, promising urgent relief in key areas:
FOOD AID: Ramping up food production and distribution.
WORKER RELIEF: Targeted help for low-income households.
JOBS BOOST: Support for small businesses and youth employment.
The Governors also urged all leaders to “shun divisive rhetoric”, using their platforms to promote unity and respect, while isolating “criminality and hate speech.”
In a final political hammer blow, the PGF reaffirmed its unwavering loyalty to the APC, pledging to keep the party focused on delivering results across the federation.
