ONITSHA, Anambra, Nigeria – First Republic Minister of Aviation, Chief Mbazulike Amechi has described those opposing resolutions of the Southern governors as real enemies of Nigeria. He also said the allegation that Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) was planning to burn certain places and property in Lagos were unmerited giving the investments of Igbo in Lagos
Mbazulike who spoke to newsmen in his Ukpor country home, Nnewi South local government area of Anambra state on Tuesday said , that property owned by Ndigbo in Lagos were to unquantifiable , as such no right thinking Igboman or organisation could think of burning the state for any reason .
According to him, the bond existing between the people of the Southeast and Southwest is very tight and inseparable. He said that those that were behind the rumour were only trying to create problems between the two ‘brothers’.
He recalled how in 1966, then Western Region Governor, Col Adekunle Fajuyi voluntarily sacrificed his life for the sake of then Head of State, Gen. Aguiyi Ironsi as well as intervention of then Eastern Region Premier, Dr. Michael Okpara during the travail of the Yoruba leader, Chief Obafemi Awolowo while in Calabar prison.
“Let me seize this opportunity to dispel a cheap and blatant falsehood which some ignoramuses are spreading in the social media that the IPOB and or some organisations and persons are planning to burn or do damage to some places or properties in Lagos.
“This is a cheap and idiotic falsehood. Igbo property in Lagos are so many, so scattered and so high in value for any Igbo group or organisation that no right thinking Igbo individual or organisation could think of igniting any evil in the state .
“”The understanding between the Yoruba and the Igbo are so deep, fundamental and sacrosanct that they are sealed with the blood of two great heros, Gen. Aguiyi Ironsi and Col Adekunle Fajuyi. If anybody thinks that he can drive a wedge between the Igbo and Yoruba or kill the solidarity of the South to liberate themselves from the programmed enslavement by any external force, that person is daydreaming” he said .
While congratulating the Southern governors over their 10-point resolution which he described as key to Nigeria’s current travails, the ex-Minister chided Senate President, Ahmed Lawan over his position on Southern governors’ restructure decision. He wondered why the Senate President would admonish the Southern governors to go and find solutions to the crisis in their states. He however called on the Southerners to demonstrate solidarity with the governors to secure their freedom within the federation.
“Are there more crisis in the South than the North where whole villages are wiped and buildings burnt, where hundreds of young men and women are kidnapped and killed, where Boko Haram has expanded as far down as Niger, Katsina and Zamfara states? If there are security crisis in Southern Nigeria, they are caused by the Fulani adventurers from the North. But the Southern governors have resolved to contain them.
“The people of Southern Nigeria and Indeed Benue State, must rise to save and defend their parts of Nigeria from the fantasy and wild day dream of colonization, Islamisation and Fulanization,” he added.
