October 5, 2014 – World number four, Maria Sharapova today won the China Open beating her challenger and third seed, Petra Kvitova(24) 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 in Beijing.
Sharapova(27) won four games in a row.
She took the first three games of the final set and went on to win in two hours and 28 minutes. It is the fifth successive Sharapova’s victory over Kvitova.
She won French Open in June, Madrid Open in May and Stuttgart Grand Prix in April all in 2014.
