TAIN- L ‘ HERMITAGE, France – Damien Tarel(28) the Frenchman who slapped French President, Emmanuel Macron has been sentenced to a total of four months in prison, the BFM TV reported.
According to the TV, Tarel, charged with assault was sentenced to a total of 18 months out of which 14 were suspended. Damien Tarel(28) an unemployed fan attacked the French president when he was shaking hands with members of the public during his visit to Tain L’Hermitage on Tuesday, June 8, 2021.
Tarel, who had described himself as a right wing sympathizer told the court in Valence, Southern France, that he slapped the President because he represented everything bad in France.
He said he had contemplated throwing an egg or a cream tart at the President during the visit but that he did not plan to slap the French President.
“I think that Macron represent very neatly the decay of our country. If I had challenged Macron to a duel at sunrise, I doubt he would have responded”, he told the TV station.
The President had reached to Tarel who was standing behind a security barrier, but Tarel shouted,” A Bas La Macronie” which is Down with Macronia before giving his slap on the face.
