FRANKFURT – A 23-year-old man jumped into Frankfurt’s Main River while fleeing from the police, who said they chased him due to his erratic driving.

The man was suspected of being intoxicated at the wheel, the police said on Friday. He was caught and tested positive for cocaine.

The Frankfurt man’s car had attracted the attention of a patrol on Thursday afternoon due to unsafe driving. When the officers tried to stop the car, the driver accelerated.

After a short attempt to evade the police, the young man stopped the car and fled on foot, heading toward the Main river.

But the escapee did not last long in the river and was then detained and taken to the police station.
