OLD TRAFFORD turned into the THREATRE OF FRUSTRATION last night as West Ham grabbed a dramatic late equaliser to deny Manchester United a crucial Premier League win.
The venerable Old Trafford ground, a venue steeped in history and usually a fortress for the Red Devils, saw the Hammers hold them to a disappointing 1-1 draw, leaving the home faithful fuming.
United looked set to climb the table after defender Diogo Dalot finally broke the deadlock in the 58th minute. The unlikely hero fired home after a scramble, sending the legendary stadium into raptures.
But the joy echoing around the famous stands was brutally cut short.
With just seven minutes left on the clock, West Ham youngster Soungoutou Magassa stabbed home an 83rd-minute equaliser from close range after a corner, stunning the nearly 74,000-strong crowd into a frustrated silence.
The point is massive for the Irons in their battle against the drop, but for the home side, it was two points chucked away at their own spiritual home.
The atmosphere, which was reported to have been sour even before kick-off due to ticketing delays outside the stadium, curdled into outright disappointment at the final whistle.
Boss Ruben Amorim was left scratching his head on the touchline as the Hammers celebrated a vital, hard-earned point against the backdrop of the iconic four stands
