PARIS – French President Emmanuel Macron has been elected as for a second time as President of France he defeated Marine Le Pen in a tightly contested runoff in the French election.
Emmanuel Macron secured 58 percent of total votes to defeat Le Pen who secured just 42 percent of total votes.
At 44, Macron becomes the first French President to secure a second term since 2002.
Speaking after the election, Emmanuel Macron said:
“To those who voted for me, not to support my ideas but to block those of the far right, your vote obliges me. Tonight, I am no longer the candidate of one camp, but the President of all.
“Each of us matters more than ourselves. This is what makes the French people this singular force that I love so deeply, so intensely, and that I am so proud to serve again”.
