PARIS, France – The world was stunned one week ago when a gang of audacious thieves pulled off a daylight smash-and-grab at the Louvre Museum in Paris, making off with historic pieces of the French Crown Jewels estimated to be worth a colossal £76 MILLION.

The robbery was as bold as it was fast. The four-man crew used a stolen furniture lift—or ‘cherry picker’—to scale the side of the museum in broad daylight.

Disguised as construction workers, they smashed a window on the first floor to access the famed Apollo Gallery, home to priceless Napoleonic gems.

The thieves spent less than FOUR MINUTES inside the building before escaping on motorbikes with their staggering haul, which included diamond tiaras and emerald necklaces once worn by French royalty.

THE BREAKTHROUGH: FLIGHT TO FREEDOM FOILED

The massive police hunt for the gang, who left a damaged crown at the scene, paid off last night after detectives scored a major breakthrough, arresting TWO SUSPECTS linked to the crime.

In a dramatic airport swoop worthy of a Hollywood movie, one of the alleged thieves was NABBED by border police at Paris’s bustling Charles de Gaulle Airport.

The unnamed suspect was reportedly attempting to board a flight heading to Algeria, sparking fears that the missing £76 million of jewels may have already been smuggled out of France.

Sources close to the investigation confirmed the man was taken into custody just minutes before he was due to take off, ending his desperate bid to reach a safe haven.

Both suspects arrested are believed to be in their 30s and hail from the notorious Seine-Saint-Denis suburb of Paris. French media reported that they have prior convictions for theft, suggesting the high-stakes robbery was carried out by career criminals.

Detectives are now grilling the pair, who are suspected of being key members of the four-man team that carried out the country’s “Heist of the Century” last Sunday.

The hunt is now intensifying for the remaining two gang members and, most crucially, the MISSING JEWELS.

Experts fear the historic pieces will be immediately BROKEN UP and sold off on the black market, destroying their priceless historical value forever
