LONDON – British Prime Minister Liz Truss has vowed to build a modern brilliant Britain into an aspiration nation with high paying job, with safety of everyone on the streets a priority.
Liz Truss, who is 47 made the pledge in her acceptance speech at 10 Downing Street, after meeting Queen Elizabeth at Balmoral Castle in Scotland.
“I have just accepted her majesty, the Queen’s invitation to form a new government”, she told an elated audience of listeners, supporters and well wishers.
Truss who paid glowing tribute to former Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, described him as a hugely consequential PM for delivering on Brexit and battling covid19 with vigor.
For her, what makes the UK great is the fundamental believe in freedom, enterprise and fair play. According to her, Britain now faces severe global headwind caused by Vladimir Putin and his unprovoked war in Ukraine and the aftermath of covid19.
She said Britain needs great job, homes and faster broadband services.
“We need investment on health to reduce the burden on family and help people get on in life”, she said adding that the journey would not be easy.
“But we will do it, we will transform Britain into an aspiration nation with high paying job, with safe streets and I will take action everyday to make it happen”, she affirmed, stressing that in union with allies, Britain will stand up for freedom and democracy, recognising that Britain cannot have security without security abroad.
Truss vowed to get Britain working again, and to grow the economy through tax cuts and reform. “I will cut taxes to reward hard work”. He promised to ensure that citizens do not face unaffordable energy bill, by working hard to secure the future of Britain and energy supply.
“I will make sure that people can get doctors’ appointment and NHS they need . We will make sure, we are building hospital, schools and roads”, she noted and that her government will deal headlong with energy crisis caused by Putin.
“We will deal with energy bill and secure future energy supply”, she said, adding she will deliver on health and put the nation on the road to success. She acknowledged that countries are built by people who get things done and that Britain has huge reserve of talents, energy and determination.
“I am confident that together we can ride out the storm, we can rebuild our economy. We can become the modern brilliant Britain that I know we can be. We will ensure opportunity for all people and future generations. I am determined to deliver”, Liz Truss vowed.
