There were indications Monday that Chairman of the multibillion Naira Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS), Mr. Tunde Fowler has resigned.

We gathered that he resigned to enable him contest for Governor of Lagos State in the 2015 general election under the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

Although there are no official statement from LIRS and the Ministry of Finance which supervises the agency on the matter, sources at LIRS told our correspondent that Fowler has since resigned and that he is due to handover to Executive Secretary of the Board, Mr. Bicci Ali in June.

Fowler who still reports to work was not in the office when our correspondent visited his office at Alausa, Lagos at 2:30 PM. His aides were not willing to speak on the issue. Even those in Corporate Affairs said they will not speak on the issue.

However, Bicci’s office was quite busy when we visited with most of the clients coming in for one business or the other. We sent text messages to Fowler’s two phone numbers, requesting his comment on the issue but he was yet to reply as at press time.

Fowler was appointed Chairman of the board when Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu was governor of Lagos State. He is a Christian. He is credited with raising the revenue profile of Lagos State from a little bit below N1billion to N18 billion monthly in 2013.

It was under his tenure that Alpha Beta, a tax audit agency allegedly owned by Tinubu consulted for LIRS until, its services were terminated by the Babatunde Raji Fashola government.
