  • Liam Ramos  stays in the US for now

MINNESOTA – A FIVE-year-old boy snatched by immigration agents while wearing a fluffy bunny hat has won a last-minute reprieve from a US judge.

Little Liam Ramos and his dad Adrian were facing the boot from America after being hauled off by ICE agents in a dramatic swoop that caused international outrage.

But yesterday, a federal judge in Texas stepped in to freeze the deportation, ordering that the pair must stay on US soil while their case is fought in court.

The drama began last week in Minnesota when agents pounced on the preschooler and his father as they arrived home from class.

Heartbreaking images of the youngster—clutching a Spider-Man backpack and wearing his favourite blue bunny hat—being led away by agents in black uniforms went viral, sparking a firestorm of “cruelty” claims against the Trump administration’s border crackdown.

School bosses claimed the lad was used as “bait” to lure out other family members.

District Judge Fred Biery issued the “emergency stay,” ruling that Liam and Adrian cannot be moved or kicked out of the country for now.

Lawyers for the family say the pair are legitimate asylum seekers from Ecuador who have followed “every rule in the book.”
A family spokesperson said:

“This is a victory for common sense and humanity. A five-year-old in a bunny hat is not a threat to national security.”

The “Bunny Boy” Case

The Arrest: Liam Conejo Ramos (5) and Adrian Alexander Conejo Arias were detained on January 20, 2026, in Columbia Heights, Minnesota.

The Controversy: Video of the arrest showed Liam being taken into custody while still in his school gear.

Local school superintendent Zena Stenvik alleged ICE used the child to try and force the mother out of the family home.

The Government’s View: The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) insists the father is an “illegal alien” who tried to flee, leaving them “no choice” but to take the child for his own safety.

What’s Next: The pair are currently being held at the Dilley detention centre in Texas.

The judge’s order prevents them from being deported or transferred while their asylum claim is reviewed.
